This week I’ve been really fortunate to have Tom Slater master my album for me. He’s been really attentive and I’ve consumed so much of his time it’s been a guilty joy. Tom was a guitarist in 80′s Post Punk/Psychedelia band Yeah Yeah Noh, who also recorded a Peel session back in the day and sound great!

So the First Fold crew, always altruistic in nature, decided to put together this free download label sampler as a gift to you in time for Easter. The one caveat being every track contributed by their artists had to be a live performance. So I had fun trying to play synthesiser and guitar simultaneously and it was cool and novel for me to be able to capture a moment through a live performance as opposed to sequencing. There’s loads of great, interesting and eclectic stuff on there so please check it out and share with your friends.

Here at first fold, live performance has become an important part of our practice as artists working in sound. We wanted to mark this fact by inviting acts that we are involved with to submit a track that captured the raw excitement of live performance. Some of the tracks were captured at our BOYD events, some are studio jams, improvised pieces or intimate recordings with only the artist present, they are all one shot live performances and we would like to share these little gems with you.

This is a recent remix I did of a great producer from Tampa, Florida called Spies On Bikes. It’s a remix of the song Wild Behaviour from his album Man Overboard. I’d highly recommend checking the album as it’s an original and fun fusion of blues, beats and oddball songs.

I’m going to be working with the great people over at First Fold Records- an independent label specialising in electronic and experimental sounds (as well as publishing) to release my debut album scheduled for June this year! They have an impressive and eclectic roster and I’m thrilled to be part of it.
